Want to submit to carte blanche?

carte blanche, accepts poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Send us your odes, sonnets, free verse, short stories of all types and genres, memoirs, personal essays, book reviews, literary journalism, musings on the writing process—as long as it's well written (and within our 3500 word limit) we'll consider it.

carte blanche also accepts English translations of literary works written in French, including poetry, nonfiction and fiction. The same guidelines for length, format and deadlines apply. If your translation is accepted for publication, you will be asked to provide the original work on which the translation is based and proof of permission from the copyright holder to translate and publish the work.

carte blanche is published twice a year, in the spring and the fall.

How to submit

Writers can submit works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry.

Maximum length:

3500 words

Format:

Electronic submissions only.

Word format, double-spaced, Verdana 10 pt.

Mac users should submit in rich text format.

Include the author's name, the name of the piece, its length, and the category of submission on the first page.

The header should include the name of the piece.

Deadline:

The deadline for the next issue is Sept. 15, 2009

Please submit your piece to submissions@carte-blanche.org with the name of the piece and the category of submission (fiction, nonfiction, or poetry) in the subject line of the email. Writers will be notified of the editorial board's decision by email. Please keep in mind that we are a volunteer organization and that it may take a while for us to get back to you. But we will get back to you. Promise.
